Holtzman Shields

Holtzman Shields are powerful personal protection shields that players can obtain in Dune: Awakening. The Holtzman Shield is a powerful defence mechanism against enemy attacks, and ensures that bullets from guns cannot harm the user. Whilst a powerful addition to a players armoury, they must be used carefully, as they can attract Sandworms. Furthermore, whilst a powerful defence against bullets, Holtzman Shields can be penetrated by sword or knife if an enemy player is close and slow enough and therefore are very little use in close-combat.

Types

Base Shield

Holtzman Shields can be used to protect a players base from enemies and can be seen covering doorways and other entryways into a players base. It is unknown at present time if shields will make bases un-raidable. Despite the defensive capabilities that a shield affords a base, they cannot protect a base that is outside the shield wall from being destroyed by a coriolis storm, which will destroy a players base regardless of a shield.

Personal Shield

As well as protecting their base from attack using a shield, players are also able to obtain and use a personal Holtzman Shield to protect themselves against enemy fire. Whilst this may be beneficial in long rage fights, the shield is less effective to melee combat and as such is not a good option for up-close encounters; an enemy moving slow enough will be able to penetrate the shield.
