An example of building a base in Dune: Awakening

A players Base in Dune: Awakening is their main area of operations and also their home on Arrakis. Players are able to claim an area for their base and start building shortly after starting the game. Over time, players unlock further enhancements and distinct visual styles for their bases to make it unique. Players should remember, however, that Arrakis is a dangerous place and they must shield their base from any threats that may come their way.

A player's base is completely customisable from the ground up, and players are able to chose each piece of their base and build individually, choosing from a differing range of artistic types to suit their preference and to ensure that their base is truly unique. Players should ensure that their base is completely built on solid ground to avoid it being the target of a sandworm.

The base is also a place for players to rest, sleep, and store the resources that they have collected on Arrakis. Players may also collect water in Dew Collectors at their base. Players can co-operatively build a base through holograms which allows allied players to see and contribute to another players building.

Players who wish to play dangerously, may build their base out in the desert of Arrakis, and will benefit from an ever-changing map when the sands shift. This is not the only option, however, and for those who wish to have a permanent base can do so as long as it is built beyond the shield wall.

Visual Appearance[edit | edit source]

Dune: Awakening allows players full customisation over how their base looks. Enough customisation that players are able to individually place each part of their base, whilst choosing from a range of different styles to suit their taste. Once a base is built, players may customise it further by the addition of visual aesthetics such as banners.[1] Players may decorate the inside of their bases with other material objects such as vases, glowglobes, plants, tables and a host of other material objects.

Size[edit | edit source]

The size of a players base can grow the further they progress through the game and the more resources they collect. As a result, as it becomes bigger, it will become more noticeable on the surface of Arrakis to other guilds, and will also become more expensive to maintain. A bigger base means that players are susceptible to an increased Imperial tax[2].

Blueprints[edit | edit source]

The deep base building mechanic of the game allows each player to create a blueprint of what they have built. They are then able to trade this at the exchange with other players in return for other resources[3].
